How Times Change

Add comments

Occasionally, I think of times gone by and a smile creeps on my face.  I hope as you read this a smile will also come on yours.

Do you remember when shopping for groceries meant a trip to the neighbour corner store  or when  learning in school meant the 3R’s and tools consisted of  a pencil and 8crayolas. when hungry for a snack a bag of chips was 5cents  and a bottle of pop was 8cents. Don’t forget 2cents for the bottle. Growing up in a small town, life revolved aroung the block your home was on. When Sundays meant going to church allowing time to walk unless you owned one of the rare cars in town. The doctor, the undertaker and the cop owned the other three. Maybe you remember when talking to strangers was not a rule because everyone knew everyone else. When crime existed in the movies or some far away city. Then to plan a trip required the horse drawn wagon or the passenger train. When an honest days work for an honest dollar was not just a saying. When composing a story(the word blog was non existent) was done in long hand or if you were lucky a handed down typewriter. Or if memory allows, marrying the boy next door was not a fairytale. Computers were the subject of Science Fiction and farfetched at that. A secondary education was finishing junior high. Universities were for the wealthy. Ability was not as big as the ability to pay  Remember when times changed to a time when travel meant the auto(rare to walk anymore)  Planes are a popular travel mode. Time is a limited asset increasing our need to hurry. Stress creeps into peoples lives. There is less time for families. Careers are balanced with all the other demands on the individual Sometimes this is accomplished precariously affecting the way people interact.Marriages are no longer a lifetime commital. I can go on; but, you get the idea. Maybe how times change may not be 100%  foolproof. The fact remains, times do change so smile when you hear, remember when.
