Hello, I am looking for A link to download free music for my MP3 player. (Filesharing?) I tried LIMEWIRE but I was driven away by negative input . antique hippy type blues is my genre

Good morning Guess who? I am just wondering if there is a difference between a network patch cable and an LAN cable to go from my router to my puter downstairs? not sure what to order and, will the length make a difference

  • A Patch cable is usually a LAN cable, but that is not the most important thing to know. You will see as you look at these things that they are called CAT5 or CAT6 etc. This refers to the speed the cable can handle. You want CAT6 if they have it, or CAT5e is also OK. The length should be whatever you need to get from point A to point B, plus some slack, similar to what you would buy if your were pulling electrical wiring, except that you’ll want RJ45 connectors at both ends. Do not buy anything that says it is a ”crossover cable.” That’s for directly connecting two computers, and you don’t need that. Gonna be out most of the afternoon, so just text me if you have other questions. Good luck!

  • Ah yes, now I see. Your N router is backwards-compatible, but you will have slow service on your b-g card no matter what. You would be better off with N all around. This new protocol is much, much faster. Your old card is not only slower, but may not be able to process certain encryption methods fast enough to maintain the connection with the N router. In addition, you will want to be sure that your other devices do not interfere with your signal, so check the position of monitors, wireless telephones, radios, televsions, etc.

Whatever you’ve installed, be sure to go to the manufacturer’s site to check for driver updates. These might not be available through Microsoft Update, and sometimes they can make a huge difference in the performance of your devices.

    Good luck!

  • Gee Woggie ya had to do it on Tax Day? *laughing*
Yes, juat about anything could cause your connection to be intermittant.. make sure that you have the latest drivers for your system and for the router (I know you just bought it but that doesn’t matter; might still be an update)
