Run CHKDSK in Windows 10

CHKDSK in Windows 10 or Check Disk is tool to check errors on disk media and file systems Windows. If you have experienced a Blue Screen or BSOD when opening, saving or creating a folder, then you have to do chkdsk.exe.

If a BSOD has occurred, your Windows/PC will restart automatically and run the ChkDsk tool then trying to find the damaged file system. There are several situations where Check Disk Utility runs automatically when Windows startup. If you want to run ChkDsk every time Windows 10 Startup, I will provide the tutorial below.

How to Run CHKDSK in Windows 10

  1. Press Windows key + R > type regedit.exe > OK.
  2. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager
  3. In the right panel you will see BootExecute. Change the value of autocheck autochk * /. become autocheck autochk * with double-click on BootExecute then OK.

Now ChkDsk or Check Disk will run every Windows 10 Startup and will check the state of your hard drive if there is an error or not. If ChkDsk still doesn’t work, maybe your file/system is corrupt in your system32 folder. You can fix it with a System Restore or if it is bad please¬†Reinstall your Windows.
